Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Faces Repeated Elbow Injury

1 day ago 0

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels experienced a familiar setback on Sunday. He dislocated his left elbow during the team’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. This information was confirmed by head coach Dan Quinn.

This marks the second consecutive season that Daniels, now in his third year, has faced this injury. Last season, it sidelined him for four weeks. Additional tests are scheduled for Monday, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With Daniels’ condition uncertain, the Commanders plan to start Marcus Mariota against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. Coach Quinn emphasized the team’s support for Mariota during Daniels’ recovery, stating, “Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his (expletive) off. We will rally so hard around Marcus (Mariota) until Jayden’s back. That’s what we talked about as a team.”

Daniels sustained his injury on the final play of the first half. Replays captured the gruesomeness of the incident, eliciting a strong reaction from analyst Tom Brady.

“I thought looking back on it, at the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns,” said Quinn, reflecting on the third-and-goal play-call with three seconds left in the second quarter. “I don’t regret that call. Obviously any time someone’s injured, you play the ‘what if’ game. I don’t think this is one of those times for me. I hate that it happened. … I wasn’t hesitant about going into that spot. We’re going to be aggressive in this game against their offense. So I don’t regret that. Obviously, the outcome sucks. But it wasn’t a ‘what if’ or ‘I wish I had done something differently.’”

Daniels’ history of injuries includes starting only seven games during his sophomore season. During that period, he faced a knee sprain, a hamstring injury, and, again, the elbow injury.
