Three prominent news organizations have initiated a legal battle following their exclusion from the White House. Last week, President Donald Trump barred CNN, Politico, and MS NOW, prompting these outlets to pursue a First Amendment lawsuit aimed at regaining access.
In a statement released on Monday, the media companies expressed their resolve. “Today, we informed the government of our lawsuit to defend our First Amendment rights. We oppose the premise that the government controls press content and its dissemination,” they declared.
“The withdrawal of our journalists’ credentials occurred suddenly and without procedural fairness. Allowing this to go unchallenged compromises press freedom and the public’s access to independent journalism unhindered by governmental constraints.”
President Trump took to Truth Social on Friday, declaring the exclusion of the outlets due to their continuous distribution of what he described as ‘FAKE NEWS.’ He stated emphatically, “Media Outlets must not propagate FICTION and FALSEHOODS concerning the President, his administration, or the nation.” Trump warned that more media exclusions might follow.
On Saturday, White House correspondents from the involved outlets were denied entry. Akayla Gardner of MS NOW shared on air her personal encounter, noting her entry badge was confiscated.
