Wisconsin Brewery Criticized for Planned Beer Promotions Tied to Political Figures

A Wisconsin brewery has attracted controversy again. Previously known for offering free beer on the day President Donald Trump passes away, Minocqua Brewing Company is now planning a “half-price beer day” for when Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., dies.

Controversial Promotions

On Monday, the brewery announced its intention to reduce beer prices by half upon McConnell’s death. They claim the longtime Republican senator is responsible for “about half of all America’s current problems.” This announcement was made via an Instagram post, sparking criticism.

Health and Political Tensions

Senator McConnell, age 84, has not resumed work in the Senate after a fall at his home. The Office of the Attending Physician has stated he is not “medically cleared” to return.

“Why today? Because so-called ‘Establishment Democratic Hero’ and modern-day gutless member of the do-nothing opposition party — Governor Andy Beshear — failed to call a special election to replace the ‘ghost from Kentucky’ before August 3rd — which means by Kentucky law, the seat will go unfilled until January.”

The brewery expressed frustration with Governor Andy Beshear for not calling a special election to replace McConnell in this absence. The governor, in turn, has challenged McConnell to prove he is fit to continue serving or resign.

Political and Brewing Company Challenges

The Minocqua Brewing Company also promoted T-shirts for the “half-price beer day” event. The company had previously hinted at similar offers involving President Trump, although not directly naming him. These promotions have compounded legal troubles for the brewery.

The brewery is fighting to retain its operating permit after Wisconsin regulators moved to revoke it due to alleged tax violations. The state alleges the brewery transported beer from Illinois without permits. Owner Kirk Bangstad views the action as excessive and has appealed the decision.

Bangstad is the founder of the Minocqua Brewing Company SuperPAC, seeking to remove Republican officials linked to the January 6 insurrection and COVID-19 policy controversies.
