WWE Stars Reflect on Atlantic City’s Transformation

Atlantic City, New Jersey, once a beacon of casino resort luxury on the East Coast, has undergone significant changes. The city still boasts notable hotels and a free beach, unlike most in New Jersey. Yet, issues like crime and corruption have altered its image over the years.

During a recent WWE event, Grayson Waller, a star known for his heel persona, highlighted this transformation. As WWE brought ‘Monday Night Raw’ and ‘Friday Night SmackDown’ to Atlantic City’s iconic Boardwalk Hall, Waller shared a video portraying his view of the town. Running on the beach in the video, he remarked, “I’ve been to a lot in America but Atlantic City, New Jersey, might be the saddest.” He drew a comparison to Las Vegas, calling it “Las Vegas for people who have given up on life.”

“While the rest of the Raw roster is sleeping in, I’m out here getting after it. I don’t want to end up like one of these people who has to vacation in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So sad,” Waller said.

Despite this view, some have fond memories of Atlantic City. Fellow WWE star Matt Cardona shared his positive experiences in the city. He performed in a wrestling promotion called Game Changer Wrestling, which converted the ballroom of the Showboat Hotel into a wrestling arena. For Cardona, Atlantic City holds a special place in his career.

He declared on social media, “Back in Atlantic City tonight for @WWE. Matt Cardona, the man, was born on Long Island. Matt Cardona, the pro wrestler, was born in AC!”
