Mixed Reaction for Trump at NBA Finals in New York

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. The event drew a sold-out crowd on Monday night.

During the national anthem, Trump appeared on the large screen above the court. His appearance received a mixed reaction from the audience. While some applauded, the boos from many attendees overshadowed the cheers. The camera then shifted focus to NYPD officers on the court.

With his granddaughter Kai Trump by his side, Trump saluted the audience from his suite. Knicks owner James Dolan was also present in the same suite.

This reception contrasts with Trump’s appearance at the College Football National Championship. There, the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida greeted him with loud cheers as he appeared on the Jumbotron.

The security arrangements for Trump’s visit to New York City were comprehensive. A security fence surrounded Madison Square Garden. The Secret Service along with local law enforcement increased security measures, including closing certain streets to vehicles and pedestrians.

NYPD announced closures from West 30th to West 35th Streets between Sixth and Eighth Avenues. They also canceled nearby watch parties, citing the enhanced security needs for the presidential visit. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that New Yorkers are accustomed to such disruptions when a president visits.

Madison Square Garden, however, expressed disappointment, suggesting the permit denial was due to local officials rather than Trump’s presence.

Since his second term began, Trump has attended several major sporting events, including the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500, and the Ryder Cup.
