Atlanta Dream’s Angel Reese Shines in Victory Over Mystics

2 weeks ago 0

On Saturday, the Atlanta Dream showcased a powerful performance, defeating the Mystics 109–77 in the Commissioner’s Cup game. This victory was marked by top performances from Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, and especially Angel Reese.

Rhyne Howard contributed significantly to the win with 19 points. She achieved a remarkable 71% success rate from beyond the arc. Additionally, Howard recorded three assists and achieved a game-high six steals. Allisha Gray added 15 points and five assists, excelling at the free-throw line with 12 out of 15 successful attempts.

However, the highlight was Angel Reese. She equaled her season high, scoring 18 points. Reese also grabbed 17 rebounds and was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 10 attempts. Her defensive efforts included four steals and a block. This performance helped the Dream achieve a 7–3 record, leading the Eastern Conference.

Reese has now achieved over 50 double-doubles in her first 75 career games. This accomplishment places her among only four players across any professional basketball league to do so. She is just one double-double shy of tying with Blake Griffin for the most in that period. Notably, Reese’s achievement comes as she is set to face the Chicago Sky, the team that traded her.

In late 2025, Reese expressed her dissatisfaction with the direction of the Chicago Sky, suggesting she might need to move elsewhere for a better future. Her comments led to a half-game suspension by the Sky, fracturing the relationship further.

On April 6, 2026, the Sky traded Reese to Atlanta for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. Dan Padover, GM of the Dream, praised Reese as a dynamic talent suited to their team’s vision. Her performance in her first ten games confirms this assessment.

Reese made an impressive debut with the Dream, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve 50 career double-doubles, setting this record in just 65 games and surpassing the previous record held by Tina Charles.
