Honda is recalling more than 800,000 vehicles in the United States due to potential rear suspension failures that could lead to crashes or injuries. This recall affects specific models: the 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX.
The recall encompasses 880,514 vehicles distributed in several states including Connecticut, Delaware, and Wisconsin, among others. The issue involves corrosion at the rear subframe’s suspension mounting points, which might cause the rear suspension to fail. Honda’s estimates suggest that only 1% of the identified vehicles are affected by this defect.
There have been no warranty claims or reports of injuries or fatalities linked to this problem. To address the issue, Honda and Acura dealerships will inspect the rear subframes. If necessary, they will install a reinforcement kit, or repair or replace components at no cost to the vehicle owners.
Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent starting July 7. The recall is listed under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign number 26V367000. Honda’s internal numbers for this recall are AOU and AOT. From June 10, owners can search applicable Vehicle Identification Numbers on NHTSA.gov.
