In Frisco, Texas, new footage has emerged showing the aftermath of a tragic incident during a high school sporting event. The video, taken from a police officer’s body camera and a surveillance camera, documents the moments after 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony fatally stabbed rival athlete Austin Metcalf, aged 17, in the bleachers.
Anthony was found guilty of murder on June 10 and has been sentenced to 35 years in prison. The jury dismissed Anthony’s argument of self-defense in the case. The Collin County court released the videos as part of the evidence following the trial’s conclusion.
The surveillance footage reveals the scene on a rainy day at the track and field stadium. An individual in a gray sweatshirt is seen emerging from behind a yellow tent, quickly descending the bleacher steps. Despite tripping at the bottom, the figure continued running along the fencing that delineates the bleachers from the track. The video, unfortunately, lacks audio.
The footage captures Anthony stopping briefly to glance behind, where someone seemed to be pursuing him. He subsequently resumed running. Further along, he encountered another person, and after a brief conversation, they hugged. Their walk continued until they were joined by another individual.
Anthony later approached a police officer at the fence. The officer handcuffed him and escorted him towards a police vehicle. Anthony followed the officer’s instructions but appeared visibly emotional. He said, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me,” in a distressed tone.
Officers then led Anthony to the police cruiser and secured him inside.
