Many children, like adults, are not getting enough sleep these days. Parents are increasingly turning to melatonin to help their kids get the sleep they need.
Quality sleep is essential for good mental and physical health. When we lack sleep, our productivity decreases and mood deteriorates, impacting even heart health. For children, sleep is vital for their physical, mental, and emotional growth. Various factors like screens, electronics, and stress can keep children awake at night.
Michael Schulson, contributing editor at Undark, investigated why melatonin is becoming a popular choice among parents. “It’s like so many parents’ dream,” he says. “Is there…this one thing that can help me get through this part of the day that can be really hard for parents and families?”
However, experts express concerns due to insufficient research on the long-term effects of melatonin use in children.
