The re-release of the “Reagan” film incorporates a notable line from the 40th president originally omitted from the first version. In this instance, Dennis Quaid’s portrayal of President Ronald Reagan includes a speech at the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO.
“You and your forebearers helped build this nation,” he states. “Now help us rebuild it. And together, we will make America great again.”
This line, delivered by Reagan in the Oval Office, was part of a 2024 biopic, now re-releasing.
Director Sean McNamara explained the initial exclusion of the moment stemmed from its release during an election year. Though Reagan first coined “Make America Great Again” in his 1980 campaign, President Donald Trump later used it for his 2016, 2020, and 2024 campaigns. Trump’s supporters frequently refer to it by the acronym “MAGA.”
“In the middle of a divisive election season, we opted to omit a scene that could be misconstrued as election-related,” McNamara shared with Fox News Digital. “This year, we’re reinstating a phrase presidents from both parties have used, and which Reagan first used as his slogan in 1980.”
The special edition, featuring 10 additional minutes of unseen footage, is set for release in theaters on Sept. 25, commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. Plans include limited screenings on July 4 in various cities and a more extensive release in September across 600 theaters.
The extra scenes offer glimpses of interactions between Reagan and his wife Nancy in the Oval Office, moments with his father Jack, and scenes set at the Reagans’ California ranch, Rancho del Cielo.
The documentary “Making Reagan,” available on Fox Nation, provides an exclusive perspective on the making of the biopic. It includes interviews with cast members like Elya Baskin and Kevin Dillon, as well as archival footage of Reagan and behind-the-scenes content.
Despite generally poor critical reviews in 2024, the film achieved high audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
