Jordan Walker Wins 2026 Home Run Derby

Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals emerged victorious in the 2026 Home Run Derby, defeating Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies with a thrilling walk-off home run. Walker’s 12 home runs in the final round allowed him to surpass Schwarber’s 11, thanks to MLB’s new Derby format.

The Derby’s latest format grants each of the eight contestants 20 swings to hit as many home runs as possible. A unique feature of this format is the ability to continue swinging if the final swing results in a home run until a ball doesn’t clear the fence.

In the opening round, Boston Red Sox’s Willson Contreras made a strong impression with 13 homers in his 20 swings. Walker matched this performance, setting the standard to advance to the semifinals.

Kansas City Royals’ Jac Caglianone and Chicago White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami competed fiercely, but only managed eight and nine home runs, respectively. Tampa Bay Rays’ Junior Caminero hit 12 home runs, outpacing Ben Rice’s seven for the New York Yankees.

The local favorites, Schwarber and Bryce Harper, faced pressure to qualify for the next round, with Schwarber hitting 10 homers. Harper could only manage eight, allowing Schwarber to advance as the final semifinalist.

During the semifinals, Schwarber found his stride, hitting nine home runs to edge out Contreras, who finished with eight. In the other semifinal match, Walker narrowly defeated Caminero, 6-5.

Schwarber continued to impress the Philadelphia crowd in the finals, hitting 11 out of his 15 swings over the fence. Walker, facing immense pressure, responded with a remarkable performance. He started with four homers and ended with a stunning moonshot to claim victory after reaching 11 home runs.
