Netanyahu’s Office Criticizes NYC Mayor for ICC Remarks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for his recent comments. Mamdani labeled Netanyahu a “war criminal” and suggested considering his arrest in New York based on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.

Netanyahu’s office responded on Sunday, stating the ICC has no jurisdiction over Americans or Israelis. They referred to the ICC as a “kangaroo court” and noted that the arrest warrant was issued by a former prosecutor facing misconduct allegations.

Mamdani was accused by Netanyahu’s office of attempting to distract from issues in New York by attacking Israel. They urged him to address local problems rather than criticize the only democracy in the Middle East.

Israel has expressed its intention to disregard the ICC warrant. Netanyahu’s leadership focuses on minimizing civilian harm while opposing Hamas, which they label a “genocidal terrorist organization.” They claim Hamas uses civilians as shields and targets Israelis.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described Mamdani’s statements as mere “political theater,” doubting any arrest attempt on Netanyahu during his visit for the U.N. General Assembly.

Some Democrat leaders have opposed Mamdani’s stance, warning about potential risks. Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams called Mamdani’s comments reckless and emphasized the risks to American diplomats abroad. He warned that leadership requires understanding the impact of words.

Senator John Fetterman criticized Mamdani, urging him to focus on New York issues. He dismissed the ICC as a “corrupt court” and advised Mamdani to “sit down.”
