Beatriz Hatz: From ‘Love Island’ to Gold Medal Victory

Beatriz Hatz, a recent contestant on ‘Love Island USA,’ achieved a significant victory unrelated to reality TV. Although she did not win the show, Hatz, a two-time Paralympian at 25 years old, clinched gold at the USA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships in New York City. She excelled in the T64 women’s long jump competition, with this achievement occurring shortly after the reality show’s finale on July 12.

The T64 long jump event caters to athletes with moderate movement impairment in one lower leg or those lacking one or both legs below the knee, as explained by Lexi Global, a resource for para-sports regulations.

Initially, Hatz was in second place behind Taleah Williams but found her rhythm by the fifth round, achieving a jump of 5.24 meters, reported by ESPN. She secured her win after the sixth round with a leap of 5.11 meters.

Hatz’s victory was witnessed by supportive peers. Her Season 8 cast mates, Sean Reifel and Amora Robinson, attended the event to cheer her on. Reifel exclaimed in a post-event interview, “She’s a monster!” Robinson also expressed pride, telling Hatz, “We’re so proud of you!”

This accomplishment stands out, considering Hatz’s limited training opportunities while at the ‘Love Island’ villa. As one of the original Season 8 contestants, she was quickly recognized for her directness and humor regarding her limb difference. By Episode 9, she had left the villa after America chose to pair her partner Gabriel with newcomer Jen Terry.

Hatz discussed training challenges during an interview with TODAY.com. She shared, “My training usually ranges from three to four hours on the track, depending on the session’s pace, but villa life meant limited time slots and constant distractions.” Despite these constraints, she maintained her practice as much as possible.

“I brought my blade with me and did some training,” Hatz revealed. “Though it wasn’t shown on the broadcast, I worked on long jump drills, technical exercises with my blade, and tendon ligament circuits.”
