David Jonsson Announced as New Black Panther; Ryan Gosling Joins MCU

David Jonsson is stepping into the mantle of the Black Panther. Director Ryan Coogler revealed the news to an enthusiastic crowd during Marvel Studios’ presentation at Comic-Con International. Jonsson, known for his roles in Industry, The Long Walk, and Alien: Romulus, will portray the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. The film Black Panther III is scheduled for release in December 2028.

At the event, Jonsson accompanied Coogler on stage, joined by actors Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. Holding his hand to his chest with a wide smile, Jonsson thanked the Marvel family for the opportunity. He expressed his excitement but chose to let the film tell the story, emphasizing the power of the cinematic experience.

Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020 left fans speculating about the future of the Black Panther role. The 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced the possibility of T’Challa’s son stepping into the role, adding anticipation for the character’s continuation.

In another announcement, Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider. He will collaborate again with director Shawn Levy on a film also expected in 2028. Gosling expressed his enthusiasm to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and the audience, sharing his long-standing interest in portraying Ghost Rider. His partner Eva Mendes appeared with Nicolas Cage in the original Ghost Rider film released in 2007. Though a sequel followed in 2012, Ghost Rider has yet to feature in the MCU.

Kevin Feige announced a re-release of Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2019 film Avengers: Endgame on September 25. This version will include new footage that ties it to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on December 18. Comic-Con attendees were treated to appearances by Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. Fans eagerly awaited this popular panel, some spending more than a day to secure their spot in the session.
