A’ja Wilson: Dominating Women’s Basketball and Embracing the GOAT Talks

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson has earned recognition as the best women’s basketball player globally and possibly the best overall player. She openly acknowledges the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) discussions surrounding her. In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Wilson expressed astonishment at the accolades.

“It’s crazy,” Wilson said. “When people say it, it’s truly crazy because you think about so many people that have been on this list of GOATs, and I just wouldn’t imagine my name being on it at this point of my career. I’m just like, ‘Uh-uh, I still got so much to do. I still have to keep going. I want more.’ So when people say it, I’m like, thanks, but what?”

Embracing her status, Wilson added, “If I’m the GOAT, cool, I’m there. In my eyes, I’ve been the GOAT since ’96, so this is just a part of it.”

Wilson’s accomplishments in the WNBA are unparalleled. She is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, MVP, Finals MVP, and champion, becoming the first to achieve all four distinct honors in one season. Drafted as the number one overall pick in 2018, Wilson is an eight-time All-Star and the sole four-time MVP in league history. Her drive to excel remains evident.
