The Saudi Public Investment Fund, known as PIF, announced in April that it will stop funding LIV Golf after the 2026 season. With PIF as the sole financial supporter, there was speculation that LIV Golf might not continue in its current form beyond this year.
On Wednesday, however, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil dismissed these speculations. Speaking ahead of LIV’s New York tournament at Trump National Bedminster, O’Neil disclosed that they have secured a new investor to sustain the circuit. While specific details about the investor remain undisclosed, O’Neil shared significant information regarding the future direction of LIV Golf.
LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.
This next phase will see players become the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, marking a first for a major global sports league. The aim is to finalize this transaction by September.
The future format of LIV Golf remains undefined, especially concerning player participation starting in 2027. The planned schedule for 2027 includes 10 events, split between the United States and international locations.
LIV’s continuity beyond 2026 has been confirmed despite uncertainties surrounding the LIV Team Championship, scheduled for August 27-30. Reports at the end of July suggested the possible cancellation of the championship due to logistical issues and financial concerns. According to Martin Kaymer, a LIV golfer and former major champion, the event is unlikely to occur.
As of now, discussions about future investments have shown positive results, paving the way for LIV Golf 2.0. The league is actively seeking investors to ensure its longevity.
