A Kansas man called 911 on Tuesday, reporting the horrifying act of killing his family before taking his own life as police arrived at his residence in Winfield.
Police Chief Robbie DeLong explained that an officer, approaching the scene, heard a gunshot and retreated, establishing a perimeter due to uncertainty about an active shooter.
Police entered the home near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street two hours post the 911 call, discovering six deceased individuals in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.
The suspected gunman, identified as Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, had previously called 911. The victims included Kelly L. George, 44; Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.
Williams Sr. had a lengthy criminal history and was registered as a sex offender. His name was added to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s list in 1997 when he was in his 20s. He faced numerous felony charges from 1995 to 2024 in various eastern Kansas counties. These included drug offenses, battery, assault on law enforcement, and attempted rape and kidnapping.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Winfield Police Department are currently investigating the shooting.
