Shooting at Georgia High School Leaves One Student Injured

A student was injured in a shooting at Warner Robins High School in Georgia on Wednesday. The suspect, a teenager, fled but was later apprehended by police. This incident occurred just one week into the school year and involved two ninth-graders.

Warner Robins is located around 102 miles southeast of Atlanta. Sheriff Matt Moulton commented at a news conference, saying, “Today a call that we train for every year happened to come to Houston County.” The injured student was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Specific details about the injuries were not disclosed. It remains unclear if the school uses metal detectors as Moulton did not address questions due to an ongoing investigation.

The shooting unfolded after an argument in a school bathroom escalated. One student was shot at 2:15 p.m., prompting a school resource officer to quickly respond. The officer administered tourniquets to the student’s injuries and stayed until emergency services arrived. The suspect was captured an hour later, approximately half a mile from the school, without further issues.

Moulton stated, “The school threat protocol and our training was followed perfectly today.” He emphasized that while the situation could have worsened, only one student was injured due to quick response measures.

In response to the event, Houston County Schools Superintendent Richard Rogers announced the school’s closure for students on Thursday and Friday, with staff closure on Thursday. Crisis counselors will be available for staff on Friday and for students on Monday, as the community focuses on healing after the incident.
