Nick Reiner appeared with Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene during his initial arraignment in Los Angeles in February. He has been indicted for the fatal stabbing of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, inside their Brentwood home last December.
Reiner, aged 32, briefly appeared at the Los Angeles criminal courts building following the release of the indictment. This new indictment replaces the original murder charges filed in 2025 and includes the special circumstance of lying in wait. This could result in life without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
Rob and Michele were discovered stabbed on December 14. Nick Reiner was arrested 12 hours later in Exposition Park. The indictment allows the prosecution to bypass a preliminary hearing, expediting the trial process and avoiding public testimony about the crime’s details and history.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman stated, “This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing.” The grand jury indictment seeks to bring the case closer to trial and justice.
Reiner pleaded not guilty to two murder counts, including special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait. The July 20 indictment also alleges he used a deadly weapon, specifically a knife.
The motive for the killings remains undisclosed, though Nick Reiner has publicly discussed his struggles with mental health and addiction. He and his father collaborated on the 2015 movie Being Charlie, focusing on a relationship strained by drug addiction.
