Houston Uber Driver Assists Police in Unusual Pursuit

In Houston, an Uber driver experienced an unexpected event when police officers jumped into his vehicle during a pursuit. Dashcam footage captured Anthony Baines, the driver, as he faced the unusual situation just after midnight on August 8.

Baines was on duty around 12:20 a.m. in Houston Heights when he saw a shirtless individual sprinting across the street, followed closely by two Houston Police officers. As seen in the video, an officer waves Baines down, enters his car’s front passenger seat, and requests assistance in chasing the suspect.

“Give me a ride over there please,” says the officer while instructing Baines to drive after the suspect. After traveling a short distance, the officer signals her partner to also enter the vehicle before they resume the pursuit.

The officers remained with Baines for several minutes, searching the vicinity, until one of them noticed the suspect. Both officers left the car quickly to continue the chase on foot. Baines reacted audibly, surprised by the sudden exit of the officers.

Police Incident: Responding to a Threat
Houston Police confirmed the video’s authenticity. They reported that officers were reacting to a call about a terroristic threat, where the suspect allegedly threatened violence against a woman and her children. Attempts to detain him were unsuccessful as he fled an apartment.

Driver’s Response: Army Veteran’s Uncommon Experience
Baines later shared on social media his role in the incident, confirming the dashcam footage. He is an Army veteran and drives for Uber to assist in saving for a home. The suspect remains at large and the investigation continues.
