1 hour ago 0

Country music icon Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80, leaving a lasting legacy on the music industry and beyond. Singer Lee Greenwood commemorated her life and work, highlighting her ‘humble beginnings’ and the remarkable career that followed.

Tributes continue to flow, with notable figures such as Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning expressing their condolences. Manning, who shares Tennessean roots with Parton, posted on Instagram about his admiration for her. “There was only one Dolly and I feel lucky to have known her,” Manning wrote, recalling a cherished moment with Parton during a University of Tennessee game.

An iconic image shared by Manning shows the duo at Neyland Stadium on November 18, 2023. Parton performed the Vols’ “Rocky Top” song, despite the stadium’s overwhelming noise levels. Her influence extended beyond traditional performance venues, as seen by her recent appearance in Dallas at the AT&T Stadium. Over Thanksgiving 2023, she donned a custom Cowboys cheerleader outfit, delighting fans with hits like “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” alongside Queen’s “We Are The Champions.” At 77, she expressed her unwavering desire and readiness for the challenge in an interview with USA TODAY.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee. As confirmed by her nephew Brin Seaver through social media, she had been battling an unspecified health condition in recent months. Her contributions went far beyond music; she was a celebrated actress, philanthropist, businesswoman, and humanitarian. Her accolades include 11 Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. She was also married to Carl Dean for nearly 60 years, with their relationship largely private until his passing in March 2025.

At Dolly Parton’s request, only immediate family will attend her small private service. The family encourages donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in place of flowers, honoring her commitment to literacy and education. Parton’s legacy remains unwavering, her influence felt across multiple spheres of life.
