Uganda has successfully eliminated Ebola as its final patient was released from healthcare facilities on July 16. The World Health Organization has officially declared the country free of the virus, providing relief to its population and health officials.
Although Uganda is now Ebola-free, the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo is struggling with a severe outbreak. The epidemic there is rapidly growing and has resulted in the loss of at least 2,744 lives. Local health authorities have reported 5,713 confirmed cases.
Efforts continue in Congo to manage and control the spread of the virus, despite the challenges faced by health workers and the communities affected.
