Victims and Incident Details

Officials in Minnesota have identified the victims of a Minneapolis apartment shooting that occurred on Wednesday. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) named the deceased civilians as Dale Henry Spry, 63, and Muse A. Afrah, 61. The event resulted in the death of two civilians and injuries to two police officers.

Spry and Afrah were reportedly residents of the apartment complex where the suspect, Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35, initiated gunfire. Johnson was later killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. A preliminary autopsy indicated Johnson died from multiple gunshot wounds, with his death classified as a homicide by authorities.

Injured Officers

The BCA identified the injured Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officers as Joseph Michnowski, a five-year veteran, and Yahye Ahmed, a nearly two-year veteran. Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson stated Ahmed was released from the hospital on Thursday, while Michnowski remained hospitalized for treatment.

According to MPD public information officer Garrett Parten, one officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other required surgery. Another officer, Ernest Boateng, incurred injuries when cut by glass while attempting to silence a locked police vehicle’s sirens. He was quickly evaluated and released.

Suspect and Investigation

The suspected gunman, Johnson, reportedly faced eviction from the apartment building. The incident commenced during a domestic child custody exchange with a woman who had previously been in a relationship with Johnson. He allegedly shot her outside before moving inside the building to shoot a facility worker and later attacking two residents on the ninth floor.

The BCA revealed that at least one officer fired during the incident. The officer, identified as Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, has been with MPD for two years. Investigators are working to ascertain if additional officers used their firearms.

As the investigation continues, authorities are looking into whether Johnson specifically targeted the victims or if the attack was more indiscriminate.
