Aaron Judge Returns to Yankees After Injury

The New York Yankees are set to welcome back their captain, Aaron Judge, as he returns from a 60-day stint on the injured list. Judge has been sidelined since late May due to a stress fracture in his right first rib. His return comes just in time for the Yankees’ series against the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

Judge’s recovery has been closely monitored, and he was recently seen at Yankee Stadium engaging in live batting practice. He showcased his readiness by hitting the ball effectively across the field, affirming his fitness to face major league pitching once more.

Unlike typical protocol, the Yankees chose not to give Judge a minor-league rehab assignment. Manager Aaron Boone indicated that there are alternative methods to help Judge regain stamina in preparation for a potential postseason run in September. These methods include playing games with the Yankees, with a possibility of being substituted before the end of nine innings.

In August, Judge began baseball activities again, initially hitting off a tee and receiving soft tosses before graduating to full batting practice. During the Yankees’ West Coast road trip, he participated in hitting sessions before their games in San Diego.

In addition to batting, Judge worked on outfield and baserunning drills and faced high-velocity pitching machines to enhance his endurance. These practices aim to ready him for his responsibilities in right field.

The Yankees are hopeful that Judge’s return will be pivotal in their quest for a World Series title. Despite trailing the AL East leaders, the Tampa Bay Rays, by four games, the Yankees currently hold the top American League Wild Card position, with a nine-game edge as they approach their matchup against the Rockies.

Judge was boasting a .248 batting average with 17 homers and 38 RBIs before his injury. In his absence, the Yankees managed an adequate 45-38 record over 83 games. While the offensive lineup faced challenges without Judge, the pitching staff has excelled, setting the stage for a promising season finish.
