Collapse of Nicolas Cage’s Driveway Due to Coastal Erosion

48 minutes ago 0

Nicolas Cage’s oceanfront property has suffered damage after the driveway collapsed, leading to the formation of a sinkhole. This incident followed days of intense surf, which was linked to a hurricane in the Pacific Ocean. Named Hurricane Marie, this hurricane generated powerful waves and high tides, contributing to coastal erosion.

According to Fox 11, the driveway’s collapse resulted in a significant sinkhole, measuring approximately 30 by 30 feet. The video footage shows waves crashing against the beams supporting Cage’s home. Debris such as glass pieces from the fence and concrete are visible within the sinkhole. Orange cones have been placed around the edge to ensure safety.

The City of Malibu released a statement on social media outlining their response to the situation. They reported that they handled the driveway collapse and a resultant gas leak in the early hours of Tuesday. Assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department was provided. The private road was closed, and addressing the gas leak became a priority.

The City’s Building Safety Division, along with Southern California Gas Company, is actively working on assessing the area. Five homes have received red tags, indicating prohibited entry, until further evaluations are completed. Updates will be supplied as the situation progresses.

Currently, no evacuations have been ordered in the affected area. Nevertheless, the city continues to monitor and respond to additional concerns related to coastal erosion, particularly near the Pacific Coast Highway at the Palisades Fire burn area and Westward Beach, where high tides are prevalent.

The threat of potential storms, heavy rain, mudslides, and additional coastal erosion remains due to anticipated El Niño conditions afflicting the Southern California coast.

Nicolas Cage acquired this beachfront home, which spans 4,000 square feet, in 2024 for $10.5 million. The residence is adorned with modern amenities such as a rooftop deck and ground-level outdoor lounge. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer expansive views of the ocean.

At the time of the incident, it seems Cage was not present, and there have been no reported injuries. Cage’s acting repertoire includes notable films such as “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Moonstruck,” “Face/Off,” “Gone In 60 Seconds,” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” for which he earned an Academy Award.

Cage has expressed his desire to experiment with various acting styles. In an interview with The Guardian from March 2018, he shared, “I like to break forms, try different things, and I don’t think studios are comfortable with that.” Working on independent films allows him to explore creatively.
