LSU Tigers Back Down from Controversial Roster Additions

Recently, the LSU Tigers decided to withdraw their plan to include former NFL players on their roster. This decision followed significant attention from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Both coach Lane Kiffin and LSU officials faced scrutiny, and the SEC even considered expelling the Tigers from the conference.

The potential expulsion is still up for a vote on Thursday. However, there is little motivation on either side to sever ties between LSU and the SEC. LSU President Wade Rousse has dismissed the idea of professionals returning to college play as ‘moot.’

Meanwhile, LSU’s rivals are enjoying the media attention. On “The Aggie Football Hour,” Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko assured his fans that LSU remains in the SEC.

“LSU will be in the SEC,” he commented. “LSU will be fired up when we go to Baton Rouge in a couple of weeks. All of those things are going to happen.”

Elko couldn’t resist making a sly remark on the situation, likening the SEC’s actions to disciplining a misbehaving child.

“This is just a little bit of…parenting…going on right now,” he stated.

This comment irked some LSU supporters, yet it reflects the current situation. LSU and Kiffin challenged conference rules by attempting to add professional players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, citing court rulings on eligibility extensions for the 2022 recruiting class.

The conference reacted swiftly, threatening expulsion amidst widespread opposition from other league schools. Coach Kiffin referenced the issue during a halftime interview, speculating about the impact of having NFL players during a match where his team led 31-3.

The SEC seems to have driven home the point, asking LSU to envision a future without its classic rivalries, to which LSU responded with a firm refusal.
