President Donald Trump has taken steps to begin an inquiry into Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. On Friday, he announced the formation of a ‘committee of inquiry’ tasked with exploring allegations that Cook provided false information in mortgage applications. Trump specified in a written memo that a hearing would take place at the White House on November 5. He stated that Cook ‘shall’ be present to address the questions posed by the committee.
This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling from June. The ruling allowed Cook to retain her position after Trump attempted to remove her the previous year. The Court declared that Cook deserved prior notice and the chance to respond to the accusations. Cook has consistently denied the allegations and has not faced criminal charges related to the matter.
