Ben Affleck Clarifies ‘Gone Girl’ Nude Scene

Ben Affleck has set the record straight about a controversial scene from one of his numerous movie appearances. The actor, 54, revealed he appeared fully nude in the 2014 psychological thriller ‘Gone Girl’ without the use of prosthetics.

The film, directed by David Fincher and adapted from Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel, features Affleck as Nick Dunne, a writing teacher who becomes the main suspect after his wife’s disappearance. During a shower scene, Affleck confirmed he was entirely exposed in front of the camera.

‘I wore no prosthesis,’ Affleck stated in a Variety interview. ‘I’ve only worn one in one film, ‘Hollywoodland.’ It was a nose.’

Affleck reflected on the filming process, highlighting Fincher’s careful approach to the scene. He shared Fincher’s assurance during shooting: David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — ‘Listen, if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything.’ He humorously added, I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool … If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.

More than a decade after the film’s release, Affleck expressed admiration for Fincher’s craftsmanship and dedication, noting, Working with David was the great privilege of my life. He’s one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live.

Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, made light of the scene during an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’ She joked, You’re welcome. Garner quipped, I just try to consider myself a charitable person and I wanted to give back. You give me so much, I wanted to give something back to all of you.

The film’s accolades included the Best Film trophy, accepted by Affleck at the 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards.

Ben Affleck’s candid reflections and sense of humor surrounding the scene have brought clarity to longstanding speculations about the film, reinforcing his commitment to the art of filmmaking.
