Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has reportedly requested a trade, according to ESPN sources. The 25-year-old player did not refute this report in his recent comments to the press. His statement, ‘I’m open to whatever. Whatever comes my way, comes my way and we go from there,’ highlights his uncertain future with the team.
This development comes during a period of significant changes for the Colts. The team recently traded away key players Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner. General Manager Chris Ballard was also dismissed last week. These moves signal a shift towards a potential rebuilding phase for the franchise.
The Colts traded Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, gaining third- and fifth-round draft picks in return. DeForest Buckner was sent to the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round pick. These draft picks are crucial as the Colts do not have a first-round selection next year, having traded it to the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner in the previous year.
COLTS CONTINUE TALENT SELLOFF, SENDING DEFOREST BUCKNER TO 49ERS, WHILE MAKING THE NEW YORK JETS HAPPIER
Josh Downs, originally drafted by the Colts in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has played his entire career with Indianapolis. In the current season, he has participated in seven games, making 26 catches for 307 yards. Over his four-year tenure with the Colts, Downs has amassed 224 receptions amounting to 2,447 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Known also for his ability as a punt returner, Downs averages 9.4 yards per return during his career. With the trade deadline approaching on Nov. 10, there is a possibility that Downs could switch teams if the Colts approve his request. If he remains with the team, Downs is expected to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.
