Ian Happ: Cincinnati Reds Considering Cubs Outfielder

5 hours ago 0

The Chicago Cubs are approaching an offseason with several key free agents, notably longtime outfielder Ian Happ. Happ has played a crucial role for the Cubs for nearly ten years. Given his experience and contributions, the Cubs are likely interested in re-signing him. However, growing speculation ties Happ to one of the Cubs’ National League Central rivals, the Cincinnati Reds.

In a recent analysis by Jim Bowden for The Athletic, the Cincinnati Reds emerged as a potential destination for Happ during the free agency period. The Reds are in need of reinforcement in their outfield, making Happ an attractive option. The team aims to elevate its competitiveness by 2027, and acquiring a player of Happ’s caliber could support this goal.

If the Reds succeed in signing Happ, he can be positioned in the upper echelon of their batting order. His presence would also be beneficial for mentoring younger players as they aim to advance. In the current season, Happ played 156 games with the Cubs, achieving 24 home runs and 68 RBIs. This performance underscores his consistent capability, as he has recorded at least 21 home runs in five of the last six seasons. With a track record like this, the Cubs have ample reason to aim for his return. However, should they fail, the Reds could become serious contenders for his signature.
