Houston Rockets Achieve Historic Start in Western Conference

3 hours ago 0

The Houston Rockets have made a significant impact in the early stages of the Western Conference, achieving a milestone that the franchise hasn’t reached in over a decade. On Wednesday night, Houston secured a commanding 132-100 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, becoming the first NBA team in the current season to reach five wins.

This undefeated start is the Rockets’ most successful since the 2014-15 season and marks the sixth occasion in franchise history where they have begun a season with five consecutive wins.

Fred VanVleet and Amen Thompson led the team’s scoring efforts, posting 24 and 23 points, respectively. Kevin Durant added 18 points, contributing to the Rockets’ most decisive victory margin of the season. The team took control in the second quarter, outpacing the Bucks 34-14 and securing a 57-35 lead by halftime.

The Rockets maintained their offensive momentum post-halftime, achieving 54.8% shooting accuracy and keeping a solid lead throughout the game. This performance was notable in the absence of key players, such as Alperen Sengun, who was sidelined due to lower back soreness, Steven Adams, who missed the game with a calf strain, and Marcus Smart, who was out with a forearm injury.

Despite these absences, Houston displayed impressive depth, hinting at its potential as a serious contender in the Western Conference. VanVleet, recovering from a torn ACL last season, showed remarkable progress, scoring 15 consecutive points in the third quarter, helping the Rockets extend their lead and secure the game.

The addition of Kevin Durant has enhanced Houston’s offensive capabilities, providing a seasoned scoring option alongside their evolving young players. The Rockets’ blend of veteran experience, offensive adaptability, and strong defensive play has established them as one of the NBA’s standout teams this season.

The Rockets aim to continue their winning streak on Friday during their NBA Cup match against the Dallas Mavericks. Though five games are only a small portion of the regular season, Houston has already reached a milestone that hasn’t been achieved in 12 years.

The next challenge for the Rockets is to sustain their early success, striving to climb back to the top of the Western Conference.
