The Dallas Cowboys are off to a challenging start in the 2026 NFL season, standing at a 3-5 record. In a recent game, they faced a surprising defeat against the visiting Arizona Cardinals.
During the game at AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys allowed a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter to slip away. This was due to Cardinals’ backup quarterback Gardner Minshew, who achieved 188 yards and three touchdowns, leading Arizona to push the game into overtime.
Dallas has lost three of its last four games. Their sole win during this period was against the Philadelphia Eagles, a team dealing with numerous injuries.
In light of Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Cardinals, there is increased scrutiny on head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Schottenheimer accepted the responsibility for the team’s recent difficulties.
“It’s not an effort issue. It’s an execution issue. That starts with me as the head coach,”
Schottenheimer stated through team insider Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I’m responsible for everything that happens here. Our execution has to be cleaner. We have to be able to put some of these close games away that we’ve unfortunately let slip away from us. And that comes down to execution.”
The Cowboys are looking to recover in their next game. They will face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9.
The matchup is set for 1 p.m. ET in Indianapolis this Sunday.
