Nicolas Cage Clarifies ‘Homeless’ Remarks After Malibu Home Damage

2 hours ago 0

Nicolas Cage provided clarification regarding his recent comments about being “a little bit homeless.” His remarks followed an incident where a sinkhole damaged his $10.5 million Malibu mansion. The event was a result of severe coastal erosion.

Earlier in the week, Cage explained that his statements were exaggerated during an interview at Comic Con. He was discussing the challenges he faced after the damage in September.

Nicolas Cage’s Malfunction at Comic Con

During his appearance at Comic Con, Cage made a statement about his living situation. He mentioned that his Halloween plans were affected by the home’s condition. “I’m currently a little bit homeless,” he said, as reported by Page Six. He added that he was “living in hotels” due to the sinkhole issue.

The actor said he intended to take his daughter, August, trick-or-treating in Santa Monica. They planned to watch “The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick afterward. The damage to Cage’s home was attributed to Hurricane Marie’s impact. The Pacific storm led to significant coastal erosion and tidal activity.

Evacuation Orders and Clarifications

Authorities issued evacuations for over 30 homes on a private road in the affluent area. The city cited unsafe conditions for emergency personnel due to access issues. Cage later clarified his comments, emphasizing that they were taken out of context.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Cage said his home was unavailable for trick-or-treaters because of the damage. “I have to watch my words,” he remarked. Cage emphasized that his family was not in distress. He enjoys Halloween and typically participates in related activities.

Background on Cage’s Malibu Property

Nicolas Cage purchased the 4,000-square-foot home in Malibu for $10.5 million in 2024. He and his wife, Riko Shibata, welcomed a daughter in September 2022. Cage’s comments were intended to highlight the temporary inconvenience, not a financial crisis.
