Pizza Hut is hailed as America’s most favored pizza chain, according to a YouGov survey involving over 44,000 participants nationwide. This survey ranked Pizza Hut ahead of rival Domino’s in the contest for top fast-food pizza brands.
The survey, undertaken between March 2025 and February 2026, forms part of YouGov’s annual restaurant rankings report. The findings highlight that Pizza Hut garnered 19.1% of the votes for the best-tasting fast-food pizza, compared to Domino’s 17.1%. The remaining top five includes Papa Johns at 11.4%, Little Caesars at 5.3%, and Marco’s Pizza at 4.7%.
Kenton Barello, a senior vice president with YouGov based in Chicago, expressed to Fox News Digital, “Pizza Hut’s lead over Domino’s in our best-tasting pizza rankings indicates that the brand is benefitting from a strong, long-term connection with consumers, particularly older Americans who have a positive perception of the chain.” A nostalgia factor may contribute to Pizza Hut’s popularity, with its longstanding presence in American dining.
Fox News Digital attempted to reach Pizza Hut and the American Pizza Community for comments on these findings. The survey results show the enduring appeal of legacy pizza chains. Amid evolving dining habits, Pizza Hut continues to attract consumers who value tradition, convenience, and brand familiarity in the face of rising food costs and economic concerns.
Meanwhile, pizza chains are contending with increased competition from frozen pizza brands and independent pizzerias, making brand loyalty crucial. Frozen pizza sales hit approximately $7 billion in 2024, reflecting a cutback in takeout spending as reported by Food & Wine.
Though national chains hold significant brand recognition, many Americans still prefer pizza from local or regional brands. Barello noted, “The data shows that more than one in five respondents favored other local or regional brands over the national chains we evaluated, underscoring the strength of independent pizzerias.”
The prevailing message for the industry is that while marketing visibility is essential, building familiarity, forging emotional connections, and maintaining consistency are vital in driving consumer preference in a highly competitive market.
The YouGov survey gathered insights from over 44,000 U.S. participants regarding restaurant quality, value, and dining choices. Specifically, within the pizza category, participants assessed which national brand served the best pizza. While Pizza Hut led with 19.1%, a notable portion of respondents expressed a preference for local or regional pizzerias.
Founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, Pizza Hut began franchising in 1959 and now operates nearly 20,000 locations in over 100 countries, headquartered in Plano, Texas. Domino’s, launched under the name DomiNick’s Pizza in Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1960, was rebranded in 1965 and franchised its first location in 1967. It currently manages over 22,300 locations globally.
This data reflects how substantial the roles that nostalgia, emotional engagement, and brand loyalty play in consumer choices in the pizza industry today.
