Chicago police reported the arrest of a 24-year-old man who critically injured a 52-year-old man in the New City neighborhood on the South Side. The incident took place overnight.
At approximately 2:10 a.m., the two men engaged in an argument outside on the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation. The younger man then revealed a firearm and shot the older man in the head.
Emergency services transported the victim to UChicago Medicine. He remains in critical condition. The 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody, and charges are currently pending.
Police have indicated that the shooting appears to be related to a domestic issue.
