Cody Rhodes and Gunther concluded a tense episode of “Friday Night SmackDown” with their confrontation ahead of the Undisputed WWE Championship match at Clash in Italy this Sunday.
Rhodes has faced numerous provocations from Gunther, who attacked him multiple times following Paul Heyman’s favor-induced title match setup. Gunther claimed the sneak attacks were over as he addressed Rhodes.
“I’m relatively new to ‘SmackDown,’ but it’s obvious this show centers around you,” Gunther remarked, adding that Rhodes thrives in a culture that rewards egotism and nepotism. He likened Rhodes to a symbol of the “crumbling American dream,” accusing him of entitlement, with all achievements a mere phone call away. In contrast, Gunther said he earned his position through discipline, hard work, and sacrifice, and vowed to protect the “sacred sport” from self-serving individuals like Rhodes.
Rhodes called Gunther a “liar” for suggesting he doesn’t crave the attention that comes with wrestling success and promised to show Gunther he’s “just not that good,” reminding him he’s “easy to find, but hard to beat.” Gunther, unfazed, listed legendary wrestlers he has defeated, confidently predicting Rhodes would join them.
A Sami Zayn ‘Lesson’
Sami Zayn faced Cody Rhodes in the ring alone last week, allowing Gunther to attack. Despite Zayn initially confronting Rhodes backstage, claiming he “had his back,” tensions escalated as both men reflected on recent events. Zayn insinuated Rhodes needed to learn a lesson through this experience.
Afterwards, Zayn dealt with interruptions from Matt Cardona, eventually challenging him to a match before the night concluded.
Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley Exchange Words
The crowd in Barcelona eagerly awaited Rhea Ripley as Jade Cargill entered the ring with her allies Michin and B-Fab. Cargill confidently addressed them, emphasizing her self-sufficiency. Ripley interrupted, reminding Cargill she had previously beaten her and would do so again at Clash in Italy.
An exchange between the women led to the announcement of a match between Cargill and Alexa Bliss. Although Cargill emerged victorious, further conflict ensued when Cargill attacked Bliss post-match, though Ripley and Charlotte Flair swiftly intervened.
Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes Edge Closer to a Collision
Trick Williams, having recently claimed the United States Championship, declared his participation in the upcoming King of the Ring Tournament. His ongoing tension with former NXT rival Carmelo Hayes hinted at an inevitable showdown.
Ricky Saints inserted himself into the mix, challenging them both. Williams boldly declared his superiority as the competitors faced off. Their match ended in a double count-out, leaving future opportunities open.
