Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell Out for Thunder in Game 7

4 weeks ago 0

Oklahoma City — Significant changes impact the Oklahoma City Thunder for Game 7 of the Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell will not be playing due to persistent injuries throughout the series.

Injury Concerns

Jalen Williams is dealing with a strained left hamstring. This issue has plagued him during much of the playoffs. He missed a large portion of the regular season: 49 games due to wrist and hamstring injuries. His absence on Saturday marks the tenth playoff game he’s missed this year because of his current hamstring problem. In recent games, he managed to play limited minutes, including about ten minutes in a Game 6 defeat against the Spurs.

Ajay Mitchell has a strained right soleus muscle. Mitchell initially stepped in as a starter to replace Williams but became sidelined due to his own injury. Jared McCain has since filled the starting position for the Thunder, alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Isaiah Hartenstein, Lu Dort, and Chet Holmgren.

Impact on Saturday’s Game

The Spurs have a clear advantage with no reported injuries ahead of Game 7. This unburdened lineup contrasts with the Thunder’s adjustments due to player absences. The referees for the game, chosen by the NBA, are Marc Davis, John Goble, and Josh Tiven. Both Davis and Tiven have previous experience officiating critical Game 7s in these playoffs.

Key Figures

Marc Davis and Josh Tiven have been involved in significant playoff games already. Davis handled the final game of the Cleveland-Detroit series while Tiven oversaw Game 7 of Orlando-Detroit in the earlier rounds. Their roles in the upcoming game may play a crucial part in its outcome.
