Anne Wilson, a Grammy-nominated Christian-country singer, believes that following Jesus can come at a personal cost, and she is prepared for it. In her new book, “Rebel: Following Jesus When the World Walks the Other Way,” Wilson shares her journey of dealing with criticism, industry pressures, and fears of rejection while maintaining her strong message of faith.

Born in Kentucky, Wilson spoke to Fox News Digital about how being vocal about her Christianity has sometimes cost her professional opportunities, even amid her rising success in Nashville.

“I’ve missed a lot of opportunities for speaking about my faith,” Wilson said. “It comes at a cost, but I’m bold in my beliefs and willing to pay that price.”

Wilson’s book reveals her commitment to authenticity, especially when beginning discussions with a major country label. She insisted that if any attempt was made to change her message about Jesus, there would be no deal.

She recounted an early interaction with her team questioning her choices. “Anne, do you know what could happen if you speak about this?” they asked. Her response was unwavering: “Yeah, I do, but I want to do it anyway.”

Her book, a follow-up to “My Jesus” and the “Hey Girl” devotional, emphasizes her determination. Wilson has experienced skeptical reactions at country festivals, where she passionately preaches the gospel. Despite this, she remains steadfast, knowing her calling is to share Jesus with the world.

Wilson recalls a moment of profound encouragement from the label head, who told her, “I want you to bring God back to country music.” This inspired Wilson to remain authentic in the industry, optimistic about acceptance from both Christian and country music fans.

The book shares anecdotes like her performance at Florida’s Tortuga Music Festival, where initially faced with an empty tent, her doubts grew. Yet, the tent soon filled, solidifying her purpose and dedication to her message.

Her career began at 15, when she sang at her brother Jacob’s funeral, a performance that went viral and caught the attention of Nashville scouts. Now, Wilson consistently rejects pressures to alter her faith-focused message to fit industry norms or gain following.

Wilson’s commitment to her faith has sometimes led to difficult moments, particularly when faced with expectations to adopt provocative styles for broader appeal. She insists that her respect derives from her message, not her appearance.

“I want to be respected for my message, not for how my body looks,” Wilson emphasized.
