Antioch Triumphs in Class 3A Semifinal
In a commanding performance on Friday, Antioch’s freshman left fielder Rylee Dunlavy contributed significantly to the team’s victory over Dunlap during the Class 3A state semifinal held at Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria. Dunlavy showcased her skills with a 2-for-3 performance, including an RBI triple, and she crossed the plate twice.
Strong Start for the Sequoits
The game began favorably for Antioch, largely due to a powerful four-run first inning. This impressive start was marked by Dunlavy’s triple. Antioch, with this win, improved their record to 33-3 and are set to compete against either Chatham Glenwood (29-2) or Fenwick (22-11) in the championship game scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Contributions from Key Players
Freshman first baseman Kylie Pfleeger also made her presence felt by hitting a triple, which led to two runs for the team. In the pitching department, freshman ace Pearl Wenzel had a stellar performance, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out two batters, securing her 16-0 record.
Additional contributions came from senior designated player Kailyn Bockwoldt, who delivered two hits with an RBI. Senior catcher Addie Webb also played a pivotal role with a two-run single, further reinforcing Antioch’s offensive strength.
This victory marks Antioch’s third time in four years reaching the state final, highlighting their consistent excellence in high school softball.
