Arthur Maulet, a well-known slot cornerback in the NFL, has announced his retirement after nine seasons. Over his career, Maulet played for seven different teams. He was last seen with the Detroit Lions in the 2025 season.
Maulet, who is 33 years old, joined the Lions’ practice squad on October 8, 2025, and was moved to the active roster on October 20 of the same year. In Week 7, during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he achieved his fifth and last career interception in a 24-9 victory.
Starting his professional journey as an undrafted free agent in the 2017 NFL Draft, Maulet began playing with the New Orleans Saints. He secured a place on their practice squad during his first year. However, on September 21, 2018, the Saints waived him, and the Indianapolis Colts claimed him. His time with the Colts was brief, lasting only two months before returning to the Saints’ practice squad.
In January 2019, Maulet signed a reserve/future contract with the New York Jets. He played two seasons with them, tallying 67 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, seven defensed passes, and two interceptions during his tenure.
Post his stint with the Jets, Maulet joined the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal. His performance earned him a two-year contract extension. In the subsequent 2021 season, he recorded career highs in several defensive stats, including 59 tackles and two sacks. Surprisingly, the Steelers released him before the beginning of the 2023 season.
After leaving Pittsburgh, Maulet signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, a rival within the AFC North. During his time there, he participated in 14 games, starting in three of them. His contributions included 37 tackles, two fumble recoveries, five passes defensed, and one interception. Although he received another two-year extension, a knee injury led to his placement on injured reserve, and he was subsequently released.
In 2025, Maulet had short engagements with the Houston Texans and the Detroit Lions before deciding to retire. Over his nine-year NFL career, he accumulated impressive stats: 239 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 18 defensed passes, and five interceptions.
