Brandi Glanville, a star from ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,’ shared concerns about her health on the ‘Brandi Glanville Unfiltered’ podcast. She discussed her worries about contracting a ‘sexually transmitted ringworm’ in the throat during a relationship with someone in the adult industry.
Insights from Lisa Ann
On the podcast, former adult film star Lisa Ann explained the prevalence of such infections on set. She emphasized the importance of early detection due to the highly contagious nature of ringworm, highlighting how performers undergo checks by makeup artists in good lighting to spot any signs.
“We had to train our makeup artists to look for patches because it’s incredibly contagious,” Lisa Ann stated.
The Nature of Ringworm
The Mayo Clinic describes ringworm as a common, contagious fungal infection affecting skin, hair, or nails. Despite its misleading name, ringworm is not caused by an actual worm. Glanville explained feeling symptoms in her throat but only gained awareness after discussing it with a friend.
“You recognize it on the skin, but when internal, it can burrow deeper,” Glanville said. She mentioned her partner’s involvement in wrestling as a potential source of infection.
Past Health Challenges
Previously, Glanville faced a medical mystery involving potential parasites after a trip to Morocco in 2023. This incident led to symptoms such as facial paralysis, initially diagnosed as stress-induced angioedema. Dissatisfied with this diagnosis, Glanville sought further answers.
The Mayo Clinic describes angioedema as a hive-like reaction affecting deeper skin layers and often appearing with hives. Despite suggested links to a parasite, a later discovery revealed her issues stemmed from ruptured breast implants, which had been problematic for over 20 years.
Glanville mentioned spending over $70,000 in her quest for a diagnosis, and shared her journey towards health with Fox News Digital.
