Since 2009, the Dallas Cowboys have held their home games at AT&T Stadium located in Arlington, Texas. Over the last decade, the team’s headquarters and training facility have been set up at The Star in Frisco, around 36 miles from the stadium.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer, now in his second year, resides in McKinney, Texas, which is roughly a 30-minute drive from the team’s facility. To reduce his daily travel, Schottenheimer has opted to put his expansive McKinney residence on the market with plans to move nearer to the team facility.
“It really is just time being closer to work, and every minute counts, when you’re at that level, for him,” said Carrie Himel, part of Compass Sports & Entertainment division, in an interview with The Dallas Morning News.
The home, which spans 5,700 square feet, was listed at $3.8 million as of mid-April; however, for tax purposes, the Collin County Appraisal District assessed the property’s value at nearly $2 million. Himel noted the house swiftly found a buyer.
“It’s a private, serene oasis,” she described. “Every window, or every space, in that house looks at nature. So it really is a special property, it just needed a special buyer. We’re fortunate to get one pretty quickly.”
McKinney lies approximately 17 miles from The Star. The exact location of Schottenheimer’s next home purchase is still unknown.
The residence features four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms and was constructed in 2021. It includes amenities such as a movie room and an infinity-edge pool, according to the listing. The garage can hold three cars.
Schottenheimer was promoted to head coach in January 2025 from his previous role as defensive coordinator after Mike McCarthy left the position.
The nature-surrounded setting of the home allowed the family to engage with local wildlife. An unusual event unfolded when an owl ventured through an open sliding door during a game-planning meeting before a match against the Arizona Cardinals. Animal control services later removed the bird.
Under Schottenheimer’s leadership, the Cowboys concluded the season with a record of 7-9-1, missing out on a playoff opportunity.
