Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is facing unimaginable grief following the death of his 2-year-old son, shared by the team’s general manager. On Saturday, Brandon Beane extended his family and the organization’s heartfelt condolences.

“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane stated. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”

Oliver has requested privacy and prayers as he mourns his son, who was also named Ed, as reported by ESPN. Oliver’s appearance at an NFL game against the Houston Texans on Nov. 20, 2025, reflected his commitment to the sport despite personal challenges.

The tragedy occurred when the toddler was found unresponsive in a residential pool in Harris County, Texas, on June 28. A person briefed on the situation disclosed this to The Associated Press under anonymity. The team and Oliver have not publicly shared the details.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Department, without revealing names or ages, shared a note on its Facebook account concerning the drowning incident. The message expressed condolences and mentioned that the investigation continues.

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the toddler’s family during this incredibly difficult time. The investigation is ongoing,” the post read.

A sheriff’s official informed The Associated Press that a report wasn’t readily available. Oliver, 28, is entering his eighth season with the Bills after being drafted in the first round in 2019 from Houston. Despite the tragedy, Oliver reported for training camp timely last month and played in the preseason opener against Carolina. Due to an undisclosed injury, he was not present in Cleveland for another preseason game.
