Gastrointestinal issues have been a topic of discussion recently, with Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley sharing his experience with a troublesome stomach bug. Ridley attributes this episode to a meal from a well-known fast-casual chain specializing in burritos and similar dishes.
Ridley spoke to a reporter on Saturday about an offseason encounter with a 24-hour bug. He confirmed, ‘I’ve actually had that a couple of times in my life; maybe three or four times. It’s not a good thing. It’s like a 24-hour thing, but it really puts you down pretty good.’
Ridley revealed that he lost around 15 pounds in just 24 hours due to the bug. Such conditions can be extremely challenging.
Given the concern around Cyclospora and lettuce, reporters asked Ridley if his experience was linked to eating lettuce. He responded, ‘Chipotle.’ It’s important to clarify that Chipotle has not been specifically associated with Cyclospora incidents that have been reported.
Attempts were made to get a comment from the company regarding Ridley’s situation. Though the exact cause of Ridley’s ailment remains unknown, he’s now recovering. It’s common, however, for people to quickly blame Mexican food whenever gastrointestinal troubles arise.
While Mexican cuisine sometimes gets blamed for upset stomachs, it’s an assumption that isn’t always fair. As a precaution, if you’re concerned, opting for a simpler meal like saltine crackers may be wise.
