Titans Linebacker Cedric Gray Enters Concussion Protocol

45 minutes ago 0

The Tennessee Titans have announced that linebacker Cedric Gray is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after a UTV accident over the weekend. The team expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol.”

This development is significant as the Titans are set to open their season against the New York Jets on Sunday. Head coach Robert Saleh, formerly with the Jets, faces the challenge of beginning the season without Gray. Concussion protocol requires players to complete several steps before returning, making Gray’s participation in Week 1 unlikely.

Gray, a fourth-round pick in 2024, is entering his third season with the Titans. Last season, he recorded impressive stats with 164 tackles, the fourth-most in the NFL, along with seven tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and a sack in 16 games. His performance earned him a Pro Football Focus grade of 78.9, ranking seventh out of 88 linebackers, and a run defense grade of 92.7, the second-highest.

Without Gray, the Titans will rely on veteran Cody Barton, third-year player James Williams Sr., and rookie Anthony Hill Jr. to step up at the season’s start.
