Celebrating Marilyn Monroe’s Centennial

Marilyn Monroe’s centennial birthday is being celebrated with grandeur worldwide. Various events commemorate her legacy, including a prestigious exhibition at a Paris film museum titled “Cent Ans de Fascination.” The National Portrait Gallery in London also hosts a show in her honor. In Japan, a concert marks the occasion, while in Los Angeles, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures displays her costumes and personal artifacts.

In Palm Springs, a joyful look-alike contest features diverse participants, including straights, gays, young, old, and even bearded Marilyns. This event takes place in the presence of “Forever Marilyn,” the iconic 26-foot-tall statue representing her famous white-halter dress scene from “The Seven Year Itch.”

Norma Jeane Mortenson, known as Marilyn Monroe, endured many hardships.
