The U.S. Coast Guard recently rescued 37 individuals from a 30-foot pleasure craft located nearly 90 miles off the Southern California coast. This group had been stranded for two days without fuel, food, or water. Their vessel was discovered approximately 88 miles from Channel Islands Harbor.
The distress call reached the Coast Guard around 3:40 p.m. The operator reported the vessel’s dire situation, highlighting the lack of essential supplies and safety equipment. In response, the Coast Guard deployed several teams, including cutters Sockeye and Halibut. Additional support came from stations in Los Angeles-Long Beach and Channel Islands, accompanied by an air crew.
By 8:30 p.m., rescuers had located the stranded boat. The 37 occupants were transferred to the cutter Sockeye for safe transport ashore. Master Chief Peter Nelson commended the crews for their decisive actions, especially given the challenging nighttime conditions a significant distance from land.
Once safely ashore at Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, the individuals were handed over to U.S. Border Patrol officials. Specific details regarding the origin or intended destination of the vessel remain undisclosed.
