College Football’s Early Season Matchups: Ohio State vs. Texas

7 hours ago 0

College Football often starts with teams hesitant to face strong opponents. Numerous games feature powerhouse teams dominating weaker schools, creating unexciting matchups. The expansion of playoffs should encourage more challenging games early in the season. Such games would add significance to the regular season, proving a team’s strength if they remain undefeated.

Consider Notre Dame. If they go undefeated, only two games might truly impress. In contrast, if Ohio State and Texas face off early and one goes unbeaten, it’s more noteworthy. On August 30, 2025, Ohio State Buckeyes will host Texas Longhorns at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State comes in as the top-ranked team in the country. The Buckeyes looked every bit of it in their season opener as they dominated Ball State with a 56-3 victory.

In their opener, Ohio State showed dominance, winning against Ball State 56-3. Quarterback Julian Sayin excelled, completing 21 of 25 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Even his backups performed well. However, Ball State posed little challenge.

Now, Ohio State must tackle Texas, a team with a strong defense. Last season, Ohio State scored only 14 points against Texas. Sayin managed a mere 126 passing yards, his lowest for the season.

Texas ranks fourth nationally and has high expectations entering the season. Last year’s opener against Ohio State was tough, with an offensive struggle leading to just seven points. Quarterback Arch Manning had difficulties, completing only 50% of his passes for 170 yards.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning warms up before a game against the Texas A&M Aggies at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Recently, Texas began the season with a comfortable win over Texas State. Manning showcased improvement, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Despite an interception, his performance was solid.

The upcoming Ohio State vs. Texas game is crucial for the Longhorns. To gain respect, they must defeat top teams. Their schedule is among the toughest, beginning with this matchup. The betting line initially favored either team, but Texas emerged as the favorite. Ohio State’s defense weakened since their last meeting, making Texas a strong pick. Expect Texas to seek revenge and triumph.
