Colman Domingo, the stylish actor known for his work on ‘Euphoria,’ reflected on his high school days alongside Will Smith. Despite sharing classes, Domingo revealed he and Smith were not close friends during their time at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia.
In a guest appearance on the podcast ‘Friends Keep Secrets,’ hosted by Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, Domingo, 56, reminisced about his youth in West Philadelphia. He humorously described himself as a ‘nerd’ at the time, whereas Smith, who attended the school a year ahead, was ‘the most popular kid.’
Smith, who later rose to fame as part of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, was already performing locally during high school. Domingo explained, “He was the cool kid and I was the nerd,” emphasizing the differences in their social circles.
Reflecting on their last encounter, Domingo recalled working as a waiter at El Torito restaurant in Philadelphia when he unexpectedly ran into Smith. By then, Smith was enjoying great success in the music and acting industries. Though Smith initially did not recognize him, they shared a hug after Smith’s memory was jogged. Despite sharing a high school history, the two have not crossed paths in Hollywood since.
Domingo remains optimistic about a future reunion with Smith, believing that their shared origins in Philadelphia will foster warmth. Meanwhile, Domingo has upcoming projects like ‘An Innocent Girl,’ ‘The Comebacker,’ and ‘The Four Seasons.’ Smith is set to star in the action thriller ‘Supermax.’
