Connecticut Police Officers Shot in Car Chase Incident

Two police officers in Connecticut were shot during an incident late Friday night, while the suspect was killed during a gunfire exchange, authorities reported.

The sequence of events originated when Hartford police officers were probing a suspected illegal activity. Around 11:07 p.m., a male suspect escaped from the location, leading to a chase by an officer who tried to detain him. During a physical encounter, the officer suspected a firearm in the suspect’s waistband, as per Hartford police reports.

The suspect fled in a vehicle, initiating a chase through Hartford, with police disseminating vehicle details to nearby departments.

On reaching Webster Court in Newington, a town south of Hartford, an exchange of gunfire erupted as the suspect exited the car. This resulted in the wounding of two officers and the suspect’s death.

The officers injured in the incident were Hartford Police Officer Alex Diaz and Rocky Hill Police Officer Jon Escobar. Both received medical care and were later discharged from the hospital according to local authorities.

Authorities affirmed that Officer Diaz was released Saturday and is recuperating at home. A firearm was retrieved at the scene, but investigators have yet to disclose details about the suspected illegal activity or the identity of the suspect.

The scene and sequence of the gunfire exchange are under investigation, including which officers discharged their firearms. The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is scrutinizing the use of lethal force.

In response to inquiries by Fox News Digital, Hartford police redirected questions to the Inspector General’s Office, which hasn’t provided an immediate response.
